WESTMANCOAT
Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps extract heat from the outside air and use it to provide heating and hot water for your home. They can offer an efficient, low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil-fuel heating systems. For a heat pump to perform efficiently, the whole heating system needs to be considered. This includes the heat loss of the property, radiator sizes, pipework, hot water cylinder and heating controls. At Westmancoat, we assess your property and design the system around the individual heating requirements of your home, rather than simply replacing your existing boiler with a heat pump.
Potential benefits include:
  • Lower carbon emissions compared with traditional gas, oil or LPG heating systems
  • Can help reduce heating bills in well-insulated homesHigh efficiency, with heat pumps capable of producing several units of heat for every unit of electricity used
  • Provides both space heating and hot water from one renewable heating system
  • Can work with existing radiators where appropriately sized, or with upgraded radiators where required
  • Eligible installations may qualify for government support through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Every property is different, which is why correct system design is so important. Our team can assess your home, calculate its heating requirements and advise whether an air source heat pump is suitable for your property. Where changes are required, we can advise on radiator sizing, pipework, hot water storage and controls to help ensure your new heating system operates efficiently and keeps your home comfortable.

IS A HEAT PUMP RIGHT FOR YOU?
Is My Home Suitable for a Heat Pump?

Air source heat pumps can work effectively in many different types of property. Your home does not necessarily need to be new or exceptionally well insulated, but the heating system must be correctly designed around the property. Before recommending a heat pump, we consider factors such as the size and heat loss of your home, existing radiators and pipework, insulation levels, hot water requirements and the best location for the outdoor unit. Some homes may require larger radiators, changes to pipework or a different hot water cylinder. We will explain what is required before installation so you can make an informed decision about whether a heat pump is right for your home.

DESIGNED AROUND YOUR HOME
Heat Pump System Design

A heat pump will only perform as well as the heating system it is connected to. Correct design is therefore essential for good efficiency, comfort and running costs. We assess the heating requirements of your property and design the system accordingly. This can include room-by-room heat loss calculations, radiator sizing, flow temperatures, pipework, hot water cylinder requirements and heating controls. Where existing radiators or other parts of the heating system can be retained, we will advise you. Where upgrades are required, we'll explain why and include them as part of the proposed system. Our aim is to provide a properly designed heating system that works efficiently for your home — not simply to replace your existing boiler with a heat pump.

HELP TOWARDS THE COST
Boiler Upgrade Scheme Grants

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides government grants towards the cost of installing eligible low-carbon heating systems in homes and some non-domestic properties in England and Wales. Eligible air source heat pump installations can currently receive a grant of £7,500. A higher grant of £9,000 is currently available for qualifying homes that are off the gas grid and replacing an existing oil, LPG, coal or electric heating system. The grant is arranged through an MCS-certified installer and, where your installation qualifies, the value of the grant is deducted from the amount you pay for your heat pump installation. Westmancoat can assess your property, explain the options available and, where eligible, guide you through the process as part of your heat pump installation.
